With more people having web cams and the increase of people using high speed connections are web cams the next step in online dating? I’m sure people like being able to see the person they are chatting with, but there are some problems with web cams.
First of all you can’t control what the other person does. They may do something indecent. If this happens you can just close their web cam image and most sites allow you to report the person.
Another problem is the technology is still not quite capable to handle streaming video. It will require a fast Internet connection at least cable or T1 is preferable to host streaming video. Still images are very high quality but can only be refreshed every few seconds.
I think that web cams make a good addition to online dating, because they allow people to communicate on a more personal level you can see their emotions. You can tell if they are excited to talk to you or bored. You can see them smile naturally and not the fake smile they have on their profile picture. As more people get faster Internet connections I think we will see more web cam dating sites.
